What Determines the Value of a Personal Injury Case?
Video Transcript
There are a number of factors that determine why a personal injury case has a certain value. The main factors would be how much insurance coverage there is, what are the injuries, how severe are the injuries, how much are the medical bills, what county or parish the incident happened in, or where the defendant is from. Those are just some of the common factors, and there are a number of other ones. And so what we do as a firm is we don’t tell somebody at the outset what the case value is. It’s almost impossible because, again, we don’t know what the injuries are and we don’t know how much the insurance is. What we do, though, is right when we sign you up, we start to gather the key data to tell you how much the value is. For example, right away we get the police report. Right away, we’re going to set you up with medical care if you’re injured. Right away, we’re going to get you the insurance policies that will determine how much money there is. So, we’ll know within 15–20 days some key data that can then give you advice on how much your case is worth. It will all depend. Typically, the commercial cases, the ones that involve 18-wheelers, have more insurance policies and typically people are more injured. So, those cases usually are worth more money. But again, it really depends case by case.
