Off-Duty Rowlett Police Officer Faces DWI Charges After Crash

a police badge and handcuffs

An off-duty Rowlett, TX police officer is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after causing a crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of Carmack and Main Street in Mesquite.

According to police reports, the officer ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle. The officer’s car hit and knocked over an electric pole. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries and then charged by police.

The victim of the accident reached out to our firm to help.

“It’s truly shocking that police officers’ jobs are to protect the public at large and at times they do the exact opposite. This officer decided to make a careless decision that changed our client’s life forever. Unfortunately, another major problem in this country is using alcohol to mask pain. It’s very possible this officer (along with every other officer) needs mental counseling to deal with the stresses of the job. It’s time we start putting our resources towards actually helping people deal with stress in a healthy way. Some of the proceeds from this future settlement / verdict will go towards mental health awareness.”
