Should I Make a Recorded Statement After an Accident?
Video Transcript
[Music] Whether you have a lawyer or not, we don’t recommend doing a recorded statement. Here’s why. There’s no benefit to you early on, right? You have a police report, we have other witnesses, and we want to protect your statement. Now, sometimes I’ll tell the city to the insurance company, if they allow me to do a recorded statement of their insured, I’d be happy to allow you to do a recorded statement for them. But what typically happens is they’ll tell you no every time. And so, there’s no added benefit. Now, if we file a lawsuit, you are required to do something called a deposition. And that’s a sworn statement by you and the other attorney representing the insurance company or the defendant will ask you questions about what happened. And so at that point, you’re required by law to give the deposition. But until that point, we don’t recommend it. [Music]
