Shamieh Law Representing Injured Party in Reckless I-10 Crane Incident

Hijacked crane on I-10; suspect in custody- photo from LSP

Lake Charles, LA. – August 19, 2025 –
Shamieh Law is proud to represent one of the injured individuals following the hijacking of a construction crane that caused multiple accidents on Interstate 10 on August 16. This incident happened right outside of our founder’s hometown, where our Lake Charles office is located. This reckless act caused multiple crashes, left many with injuries, and led to the closure of I-10.

From the limited information we have, this was a horrible accident that could have and should have been prevented. We are thankful that the injuries weren’t more severe and we are currently investigating how this was even possible and who all of the responsible parties are.

Louisiana State Police have arrested a Vinton man following an incident early Saturday morning in which he allegedly hijacked a construction crane, causing multiple crashes on I-10 in Calcasieu Parish, right outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The incident resulted in many injuries, significant property damage, and a temporary closure of the interstate.

According to investigators, at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, Matthew Vincent, of Vinton, unlawfully entered a construction crane in a work zone near LA-108. Vincent is accused of manipulating the crane’s boom over the westbound lanes I-10, causing several vehicles to strike the attached crane cables.

The incident led to at least four separate crashes, two of which injured individuals. The crane itself sustained damage, and the westbound lanes of I-10 were closed for an extended period to allow for a safe investigation and cleanup.

Detectives say Vincent had abandoned his truck in a nearby field before entering the crane. He was taken into custody and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on several charges.

The investigation remains active, and the Louisiana State Police are exploring the possibility of an accomplice’s involvement.
